Grant writing: make money for yourself and for good causes too
2 min readJan 12, 2023
Grant writing is the process of creating and submitting proposals to foundations, corporations, government agencies, and other organizations in order to secure funding for a specific project or program.
Grant writing is often used by non-profit organizations, educational institutions, and researchers to fund their work.
Grant writers typically do the following:
- Research funding opportunities: Grant writers must be familiar with the different types of grant funding available and the organizations that offer them. They must know what types of projects and programs different funding sources are interested in funding.
- Write grant proposals: Grant writers must be able to write clear, persuasive proposals that describe a project or program and its goals and objectives, explain why the project or program is important and how it will be implemented and evaluated, and detail the budget and other resources needed to carry out the project or program.
- Follow-up and submit reports: Grant writers are also responsible for following up with funding sources after a proposal has been submitted, and for providing regular reports to funding sources on the progress of the project or program.
